Wachner – Jubilate Deo and Psalm Cycle III Foss – Psalms Bernstein – Chichester Psalms The Choir of Trinity Wall Street, Downtown Voices, Trinity Youth Chorus, and NOVUS NY; Julian Wachner, conductor Trinity celebrates the centennial of Leonard Bernstein’s birth with a wide-ranging selection of the iconic composer-conductor’s music, as well as works by other notable New York City composer-conductors including Bernstein’s lifelong friend Lukas Foss, as well as Gustav Mahler, Pierre Boulez, Aaron Copland, and Julian Wachner. With a special emphasis on lesser-known and vocal compositions, the concerts will feature resident contemporary music orchestra NOVUS NY and a roster of North America’s leading instrumental and vocal soloists, all under Wachner’s direction.

Guest Conductor NYCC’s The BIG SING is an annual free massed singing event inaugurated in 2011 by the New York Choral Consortium as an opportunity for New York choral singers to sing together, and to celebrate the beginning of the summer, a season in which the City is active with choral workshops, festivals and “sing” series.  Typically between 300 and 400 singers participate.  All are welcome!

Webern – Passacaglia, Op. 1; Im Sommerwind, Six Pieces for Large Orchestra, Op. 6; Kantate #2, Op. 31 Brahms – A German Requiem NOVUS NY, The Choir of Trinity Wall Street, and Downtown Voices; Colleen Daly, soprano and Stephen Salters, baritone; Julian Wachner and Stephen Sands, conductors The Time’s Arrow Festival continues its focus on the complete works of Austrian serialist composer Anton Webern begun last fall. In keeping with the signature juxtaposition of early and modern music which is the trademark of the series, the festival presents Webern’s works along with later composers he inspired, including Ligeti, Babbitt, Lutosławski, Heinz Holliger, Christopher Rouse, and more. NOVUS NY will anchor most of the performances, joined for the finale by The Choir of Trinity Wall Street and Downtown Voices, and special guests Sandbox Percussion will perform the first concert of the series on June 18.

Artistic Director and Teacher: Sing like you’ve never sung before when you join the popular Summer Voices!  Now in its seventh year, Summer Voices provides a vocal music camp experience unlike any other, where participants will join in solo singing and voice training, ensemble-based music-making, music theory and aural skills, and special interest sessions which enhance every student’s musicality in a fun and safe summer camp environment. Within the camp, students will be placed into age-based, developmentally-appropriate groups to give students the most optimal musical experience.  In these groups, each singer will develop their love of music, further develop vocal skills, and increase musical knowledge and understanding.

The stories sung in the The Mile-Long Opera have been gathered through first-hand interviews with residents throughout the city, asking what 7:00 pm means to them. They reveal a vast spectrum of feelings and perspectives—and, by extension, represent the diverse character of the city’s inhabitants and their individual experiences. Set in one of the most dynamic public spaces for observing New York City and its multitude of intersecting lives, The Mile-Long Opera invites audiences to move in and out of groups of singers as they walk along the High Line. At the heart of the work is an extensive community engagement initiative that activates non-profit cultural organizations across all five boroughs.
