    On Sunday November 13 at 3pm, Downtown Voices featuring the NOVUS NY string quartet explore works by Undine Smith Moore, Jessie Montgomery, Jenni Brandon and David Lang in an array of selections that explore various composers takes on an “anthem” or a song that represents ideals. Montgomery’s stunning Source Code takes inspiration from spirituals and Gjeilo’s Dark and Luminous Night portrays the journey of the soul as it is guided out of darkness by the light of love. The centerpiece of the concert is David Lang’s the national anthems, a meditative reflection on themes of peace, war, patriotism, pride of place, and what it means to defend freedom that is ultimately fragile and delicate. the national anthems culminates in a powerful contemplation (our common fate) that despite lines drawn on a map, we are all inextricably linked in our human experiences.

    Compline By Candlelight on December 4th features Downtown Voices, St. Paul’s Chapel Choir, and the Trinity Youth Chorus  in a cherished holiday tradition for congregations around the world: the service of Lessons and Carols tells the Christmas story through readings and musical illuminations. The performance will be conducted by ensemble directors Stephen Sands, Thomas McCargar and Melissa Attebury.

  • Midnight Magic – Mirror Visions Ensemble

    "The sun has set, the gloaming has gone, and stillness has settled in. As the clock strikes twelve, something mystical begins to stir...the night brings a wonder all its own." Mirror Visions Ensemble’s Midnight Magic reflects upon the witching hour as musical favorites by Wolf, Poulenc, and Fauré intermingle with Bonds, Sondheim, and more. Three stunning voices (mezzo Abi Levis, tenor Daniel McGrew, and baritone Mischa Bouvier) are alongside pianist Max Hammond. Performances of commissioned works feature Carlos Simon’s “Dreams” and Andrew Gerle’s arrangement of “That Old Black Magic.”
