Experience two ensembles at the top of their craft performing together. Downtown Voices and chamber chorus Amor Artis take on a set of monumental works: Frank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir, a deeply spiritual and intricate composition; Thomas Tallis’s Spem in Alium, a 40-part Renaissance motet; and Orazio Benevoli’s Missa Tu es Petrus (for four choirs), featuring opulent Baroque textures and counterpoint. Music in the Somerset Hills proudly presents a transcendent evening of French music, featuring Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, performed by the Somerset Hills Chorus under the direction of Grammy-nominated conductor Stephen Sands. This deeply moving program will take place on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown, NJ. Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem is a masterpiece of 20th-century choral music, weaving Gregorian chant with rich harmonies to create an atmosphere of profound serenity and introspection. “Duruflé’s Requiem is one of the most sublime and deeply affecting choral works ever written,” says Stephen Sands, Artistic Director of Music in the Somerset Hills. “Its intricate harmonies and chant-like melodies create a transcendent experience that resonates with audiences on a deeply personal level.” The performance will showcase the combined talents of the Somerset Hills Chorus, professional soloists Pamela Terry and Jonathan Woody, world renowned organist Eric Plutz and two special guest instrumentalists, promising an evening of exquisite music-making in the warm and acoustically rich setting of the Presbyterian Church in Morristown.

Trinity Choir leads the audience through the Lenten journey, from Ash Wednesday’s reminders of human mortality to the redemption of Christ’s death on the cross. Focusing on countertenor, tenor, and bass voices, this performance includes powerful, contemplative works by Thomas Tallis, William Byrd, Jonathan Woody, and John Sheppard. The world-renowned Whiffenpoofs of Yale University, America's oldest collegiate a cappella ensemble, bring their signature blend of vocal magic and timeless charm to the Somerset Hills in an unforgettable evening of musical excellence held at The Pluckemin Presbyterian Church. In a special community collaboration, these talented performers will mentor the next generation of vocalists, working with chorus students from Ridge and Somerville High Schools in the days leading up to the concert. The evening culminates in a heartwarming finale where the Whiffenpoofs share the stage with these aspiring young singers, bridging generations through the joy of vocal harmony and creating a memorable moment of musical mentorship that promises to inspire both performers and audience alike.

Join Yale Consort for a service of Lutheran Vespers. For at least the last eighteen centuries, some formula for prayer at the end of the day has been part of the Christian tradition. Though we don’t know precisely what the earliest Vespers looked or sounded like, certain themes have endured, including confession, gratitude, and light. Through the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, we explore these ancient traditions. Free and open to the public. This service will feature Bach's church cantata Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen, BWV 12. Due to the off-campus nature of Yale Consort events, they will not be livestreamed. We invite you to join us in person as you are able. Yale Consort, a newly formed professional vocal ensemble conducted by Professor James O’Donnell and sponsored by the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, provides high quality choral music for a series of evening services in local parishes and chapels.

In celebration of its 100th anniversary, The Dessoff Choirs joins forces with Trinity Choir, Downtown Voices, and NOVUS to take the audience on a soul-stirring journey through Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem. The epic work is paired with the world premiere of an exciting new choral work by Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Tania León, commissioned for Dessoff’s centennial. Leading the powerful performance is Grammy-nominated conductor Malcolm J. Merriweather, director of the New York Philharmonic Chorus and music director of The Dessoff Choirs. Music Bach at One Splendid works from Bach’s prolific Leipzig period May 7, 2025, 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm St. Paul's Chapel Hear pieces from two distinct phases of Bach’s prolific Leipzig period, when he wrote most of the cantatas we perform today. Nun is das Heil und die Kraft represents his first few years in the German city, when he composed sacred works. Meanwhile, grand Cantata 207, Vereinigte Zwietracht der wechselnden Saiten, highlights the phase when he turned his focus to the Collegium Musicum, a public concert series. He continued to write cantatas, but the texts came from poetry rather than scripture. The latter includes an ingenious reworking of the first Brandenburg concerto.
